50s All-Round

Canberra – It was a case of 50s all-round for Liam Livingstone, Josh Philippe and James Vince in the Sydney Sixers vs. Perth Scorchers clash. It seems all three are hitting form just when it matters most in the BBL.

Batting first, the Scorchers blazed from the start. Liam and Jason Roy (21) hit 76 for the first wicket in 7.1 overs. Colin Munro (34) then gave Liam, invaluable support as he blasted the Sixers. Six times the ball cleared the boundary as he topped the Scorchers innings with a wonderful 67 off 38 balls.

Liam departed with the score on 103 with 9.5 overs remaining. Yet, the Scorchers, will be wondering how they only managed a further 60 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. At least, Liam had the satisfaction of helping Perth to the bonus point that maintains their third place in the BBL standings.

Chasing 164 for the win, the table-topping Sixers were given the best possible start by Josh Philippe. For the second match in succession, Josh hit a half-century. At present it is an expectation that Josh will fire the Sixers off the line. This time he hit 84 (1 six, 10 fours) off 52 balls. In this form, there is little wonder that Josh is the current leading run scorer in BBL 10.

Josh had a classy accomplice in James Vince. Together they added 140 for the second wicket and, barring a miracle, made another Sixers win a formality.

James’ own 50 came off 32 balls (1 six, 5 fours). While adding just 2 further runs to his tally, James took the Sixers to within 16 of the finishing line.

The Sixers coasted over the line with 7 balls remaining, stretching their lead at the top of the BBL 10 table.
