Ben Leads England

Ben Stokes will captain England men’s team for the first Test vs. the West Indies. Ben leads England at the Ageas Bowl after the ECB confirmed Joe Root will be attending the birth of his second child.

Joe will leave the bio-secure training camp at Southampton tomorrow (1 July). As a result, Ben will become the eighty-first player to captain England in a Test match.

Ben has been England’s vice-captain since July 2019 and became the obvious stand-in once it became clear that Joe would be absent.

Jos Buttler will act as vice-captain for the first test, beginning Wednesday 8 July.
