Ben Stokes – That Catch!

The Oval – England win their first Group Stage match of the ICC World Cup vs. South Africa by 104 runs. Yet, the one talking point is Ben Stokes and “that catch.”

Social Media, TV and the press are talking about one cricketing moment.  It’s Ben Stokes, and his flying, then rolling, one-handed catch on the boundary edge.

The scorebook will solemnly read Phenlukwayo caught Stokes, bowled Rashid for 24. It will not record, the gasps of disbelief and the roar of celebration from a crowd who had just witnessed something very special.

Some have called it the greatest catch ever. Well, park the puffery and handle the hype with care. All we know is, “that catch” will live long in the memory and stand endless replays.

It was some day for Ben.

He topped scored with 89 (9 fours) and helped to guide England to 311-8. During South Africa’s innings, Ben took 2 for 12 in 2.5 overs, ran out Dwaine Pretorius as-well-as somehow making a catch that will be talked about for years to come.
