Century for Scott

A composed and gritty century for Scott Borthwick was the highlight on the first day at Chelmsford. This was Scott’s first century since his return to Durham.

The bowlers were on top through-out the first day. Electing to bat, Essex were swiftly dismissed for 96 off just 41.3 overs.

Scott walked out to the middle with Durham on 11-1. The recently appointed Durham captain applied himself to the situation to give the visitors an early advantage in the match.

After returning from Surrey last October, Scott marked his comeback in the best conceivable way. His century came off 119 balls and included 15 fours. After reaching three figures, the spin of Dan Lawrence beat Scott’s defence with Durham on 143.

Durham ended the day 53 runs ahead.
