Consecutive Half-Centuries

The Oval – Consecutive half-centuries from Joe Root helped England complete a ODI series win over Sri Lanka. After scoring 79no at Chester-le-Street, Joe followed up with 68no at the Oval.

England asked Sri Lanka to bat first and posted 241-9 in their allotted 50 overs (Dhananjaya de Silva 91).

England reached their target with 7 overs remaining. Three of the home side’s first four batters scored half centuries, with Joe and Eoin Morgan (75no) seeing the match out to its conclusion. Joe’s 87 ball 68no included 5 fours and together with Morgan he shared an unbeaten 140 run third wicket partnership.

In the series to date, Joe has accumulated 147 runs with one match remaining.

The final ODI of the series takes place on 4 July at Bristol.
