England Win

Edgbaston – England got the required win vs. India and returned to the top four in the World Cup table. All four Phoenix Management Group family members in the England squad contributed to this vital win.

Winning the toss, England decided to bat. The returning Jason Roy (66) and Jonny Bairstow (111) built a solid platform by scoring 160 for the first wicket.

Joe Root, then contributed 44 runs. Yet again, Joe batted with his usual style. With Ben Stokes, Joe put on 70 valuable runs for the 4th wicket. Ben (79) and Jos Buttler (20) gave the innings its final push with a quick fire 33 run partnership.

England closed on 337-7. Ben yet again batted with great awareness for what was needed as the innings took shape.

The Indian batters kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Rohit Sharma (102) and Virat Kohli (66) appeared to be building a winning position.

James Vince who came on as substitute fielder for Jason Roy, then took the first of his two catches which saw the end of Kohli. Wicket-keeper, Jos Buttler then caught Sharma off the bowling of Chris Woakes.

As the pressure built and India fell behind the run rate, their innings lost impetus. The match ended strangely, with India pushing for singles with infrequent, but much need, big hits.

Putting aside the final overs of the India innings, the record shows England won the match by 31 runs.
