England Journey’s End

England have now reached journey’s end: the World Cup Final at Lord’s on Sunday. At times, England have smoothly cruised, at others the team has misfired. In the semi-final at Edgbaston yesterday, they hit cruise control in their dismantling of Australia.

All four Phoenix Management Group’s representatives in the England squad have played their part on the road to the final.

Joe Root has proven time again, he is a reliable accumulator of runs allowing those around him bat with freedom and, at times, extravagance. Yesterday, against Australia, he helped England to a wobble-free victory with an unbeaten 49. Joe also scored two centuries and three 50s during the group stage of the World Cup.

Ben Stokes has batted with plain good sense and read game situations with subtlety while at the crease. Ben has also proven his talents as a breath-taking outfielder. Who will ever forget “that catch” vs South Africa?

Jos Buttler brought out his box of batting tricks and scored 103 vs. Pakistan. He has also been solid behind the stumps. Against Australian yesterday, Jos produced an outstanding direct throw to run out the ever-dangerous Steve Smith.

While James Vince, will be disappointed with his batting, he has become the substitute fielder who took important catches whenever he was on the field.

Now, it comes down to that one last game vs. New Zealand on Sunday. Fingers crossed; cricket just might be coming home.
