George Balderson’s first class career best of 77 runs could not stop Lancashire falling to a 102 defeat against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Set 444 runs by Nottinghamshire a Lancashire win seemed unlikely – but, a last day draw was a possibility.

The prospect of a draw remained as George’s inning soaked-up vital overs.

Together with Luke Wells (59), George frustrated the Nottinghamshire bowlers with a 117 run second wicket partnership.

It took George 114 balls to reached a circumspect half-century.

Batting throughout the morning and then into the afternoon session, George resisted the Nottinghamshire pace attack for 312 minutes. He finally succumbed when caught at square leg for his 235 ball 77.

After George’s departure, the Lancashire batters got to within 11.5 balls of saving the game before losing their last wicket.

In Nottinghamshire’s first innings Joe Clarke recorded his seventh half-century in the 2021 LV= Insurance County Championship.
