James’ Spectacular 95

Sydney – James Vince gave a devastating Player of the Match batting performance in the BBL 10 final. James’ spectacular 95 runs set-up Sydney Sixers for their second consecutive BBL title.

In front of a 25000 plus crowd at the SCG, the Sixers batted first. After losing Player of the Tournament Josh Philippe (9) in the fourth over, fellow opener James stepped forward with the bat.

His 50 (2 sixes, 5 fours) came off just 31 balls. Playing shots either side of the wicket James was batting the Sixers to a substantial total. Willing to take risks, he was dropped twice when in the 80s.  It was not until the last quarter of the innings, that the Scorchers finally removed James for a 60 ball 95.

The Scorchers have now been on the wrong end of James’ hitting in back-to-back matches. In the Qualifier he hit their bowlers for 98 and today followed up with this innings of 95. These two big scores helping James to a run tally of 537 for BBL 10.

Setting the Scorchers a total of 189, Bancroft (30) and Liam Livingstone (45) gave them a good platform. The Scorchers push to become champions faltered with the departure of Liam. As the Scorchers struggled, James was back into the action taking two catches, including a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Marsh.

The Scorchers ended on 161-9 giving the Sixers the championship by a 27-run margin.

For two BBL finals running, Phoenix family members have taken the Player of the Match award in the final, prior to James, Josh Philippe took the BBL 09 award.
