Joe Clarke blasts 100 in Nottinghamshire Outlaws win over Durham. Wind and murky weather was no barrier to Joe smashing a century with a match-winning 6 that bagged the Outlaws 2 valuable points in the Vitality Blast (North Group).
Batting first Durham hit 181-3 in their allotted 20 overs. Nottinghamshire took on the challenge, Joe entering the fray with the score on 23-1.
Joe skilfully played the ball either side of fielders to steal runs and unleashed heavy shots to the boundary when the ball was there to be smashed. In total 76 runs in his century came from boundaries (7 fours, 8 sixes).
Chris Nash and Joe set up the win when sharing a 103 partnership for the second wicket.
While Joe was guiding the Outlaws to victory, the question was could he score a century?
With 11 needed for the win, Joe still required 12 runs for his century. Using the application of calculation, Joe managed the scoring. With his eighth six, in the seventeenth over, Joe reached his second 100 in T20, giving Nottinghamshire their first win in the 2020 Vitality Blast. Nottinghamshire now share top spot of the North Group with Lancashire.
Quote from Joe (ESPNcricinfo)
“Obviously getting the win is the main thing, but on a personal level it’s always nice to start a tournament with a hundred,” Clarke said. “In cricket you get more bad days than good. To get the win and a personal performance makes it all the sweeter.
“I went out there to put the pressure on the bowlers. We bat so deep into our order I was trying to make the most out of the first six overs. Luckily it just kept coming off for me. Getting a T20 hundred is special and to get another one is a great feeling – joining the three other lads who’ve got a hundred for Notts.”
