Joe’s 4 Wickets

Port Elizabeth – It is usual to write about Joe Root’s exploits with the bat. Not today. Instead we write about Joe’s 4 wickets and England’s third test win over South Africa.

During the first session of the final day’s play, England won the test by an innings and 53 runs.

Joe failed to claim the elusive fifth wicket on the final day. However, his 4 wickets on the fourth day helped to lay the foundations of victory. He took the important wickets of opener Pieter Malan (12), Faf du Plesseis (36), Rassie van der Dussen (10) and Quinton de Kock (3).

Joe’s 4-87 off 29 overs was his best return in test matches vs. South Africa.

While Joe took the headlines, let’s not forget Stuart Broad’s first innings 3-30. Stuart’s bowling closed out the South African innings, taking the last 3 wickets.
