Matt Critchley’s resilience helped Derbyshire to draw their LV=Insurance County Championship opener against Warwickshire. Matt’s 83 off 158 balls soaked up precious overs on the final day.
On a wintry day at Edgbaston, Derbyshire resumed on 71-5 and just 39 runs to the good.
Matt and Harvey Hosein (73no) added 113 for the sixth wicket. The pair batted throughout the morning session and continued deep into the afternoon.
Matt reached his second half-century in the match off 71 balls. Together with Hosein, he used up the vital final day commodities of overs and time.
Adjudged LBW off Liam Norwell, Matt’s 83 (11 fours) took 192 minutes and helped to move the Derbyshire innings onto 184-6.
Derbyshire were all out for 244. Warwickshire required 213 off 41 overs for victory. With four overs completed, snow intervened for the final time with the home side on 7-0.
