Review #7. George Hill scored a career-best 71 in the latest rounds of LV= Insurance County Championship matches.
Rain affected games around the country and some counties suffered from players leaving mid-match to join England’s ODI replacement squad.
Northamptonshire vs. Yorkshire
George Hill scored a County Championship career best 71 as Yorkshire took a 53 run victory over Northamptonshire.
The visitors posted 158 (George Hill 71) before Northamptonshire replied with 149-9.
In retrospect, Yorkshire’s second innings 217 proved to be sufficient as Northamptonshire were dismissed for 152.
Yorkshire’s win takes them to the top of Group 3.
Warwickshire vs. Durham
In this drawn match, rain did neither county any favours. Matters were not helped when both teams had to make adjustments due to players leaving to join England’s replacement ODI squad.
Warwickshire were all out for 237 with Ben Stokes taking 3-55 before receiving the call to captain England.
Over the remaining days of the match Durham managed 253-7 between breaks and extended stoppages for rain (Scott Borthwick 20).
Hampshire vs. Surrey
Surrey batted throughout the final day, denting Hampshire’s hopes of a top group qualification berth.
Hampshire batted first scoring 488 (James Vince 16). After dismissing Surrey for 72 the home side looked the most likely victors. Following on, Surrey showed resilience finishing the match on 122-8.
Somerset vs. Leicestershire
Group 2 leaders Somerset drew their match against Leicestershire.
In a rain affect game, Somerset declared on 461-9 (Tom Lammonby 11). Leicestershire then recorded 475-7.
Nottinghamshire vs. Derbyshire
Still missing players and with a batting line-up struggling for form, Derbyshire were defeated within three days.
First time around, Nottinghamshire dismissed Derbyshire for 149 (Matt Critchley 23).
In their first innings, Nottinghamshire scored 307. The home side then coasted to a comfortable innings and 36 runs win after Derbyshire struggled to 122 (Matt Critchley 36).
