Southampton – James Vince scored his second T20 century on Friday evening. In a double-header at the Ageas Bowl, James hit a match winning 102 runs in Hampshire Hawks 6 wicket defeat of Sussex.
James has hit form with a bang. Last Tuesday he recorded his maiden ODI century in England’s win over Pakistan at Edgbaston. A matter of days latter, James batted in a different format but the outcome was the same.
This time around, James’ century guided the Hawks in their chase to overcome the Sussex target of 184 in the Vitality Blast.
Together with D’arcy Short (35), James set about the Sussex bowlers from the outset. The pair added 120, before Short was dismissed at the start of the thirteenth over.
James’ half-century (11 fours) came off just 27 balls. Facing a further 32 balls and 3 sixes later, he had taken his score to 102. Then, with the Hawks closing in on victory, James was out hit wicket with 14 balls remaining.
This was James’ second century in the Vitality Blast. He previously hit 107no against Worcestershire in August 2015.
Earlier James’ 63 had set the Hawks off to flying start in their win over Essex Eagles.
Over the course of his two innings during Friday’s double-header, James more than doubled his run tally in the 2021 Vitality Blast. In his previous 7 innings he scored 161 runs, then added another 165 in his two innings against the Eagles and Sussex.
