George Hill is a talented allrounder who is progressing through the ranks at Yorkshire.

Sedbergh School

Born in Bingley, George attended Sedbergh School and led the school’s first XI during his final year (2019). He appeared in four consecutive National Schools Twenty20 Finals Days (2016-2019) and was part of the winning Sedbergh team in 2017.

George scored an unbeaten 136 for Sedbergh vs. Bolton GS in his final home game for the school in 2019.

Yorkshire

George has played for Yorkshire from the Under 14s through to the Under 17s. He took a major step forward in 2016 when joining the Yorkshire Academy.

Both Yorkshire and England have seen the potential in George. He made his T20 debut for Yorkshire’s Second XI in May 2017 before playing in Second XI Championship matches.

2019

In May 2019, George scored a 107 ball 122 (8 fours, 3 sixes) for the Yorkshire Academy in a Yorkshire League match vs. Sessay.

Yorkshire moved to secure George’s future by offering him his first professional contract.  On 14 June 2019, it was announced that George had put pen to paper with the White Rose County.

2020

George made his First-Class debut in the Bob Willis Trophy (North Group) match against Derbyshire in August 2020. He played one further match in this competition against Lancashire, scoring 29 in Yorkshire’s first innings. In total, George scored 33 runs from his two innings in Bob Willis Trophy group matches.

2021

The 2021 Second XI Championship started on a high for George. In his opening match against Gloucestershire at Bristol, George made his first century before going on to score 207 as Yorkshire’s Seconds amassed a record breaking 602-8.

By late May, George was making his County Championship debut in the Roses match vs. Lancashire.

In total, he played seven County Championship matches during the season, scoring 263 runs from 11 innings. His highest score of 71 came against Northamptonshire in July. A week after recording a then career best highest score George was presented with his Yorkshire Second XI cap.

George also took 7 County Championship wickets with best bowling figures of 2-12 coming against Somerset at Scarborough.

2022

While Yorkshire were relegated from Division 1 of the County Championship, the 2022 season was a personal success for George.

He scored over 700 runs from 24 innings during the 2022 campaign, including two centuries.

George’s maiden First-Class and County Championship century came against Northamptonshire in April when he scored 151*. Later in the summer George scored his second century (131), this time against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl. He went on to pass 1000 First-Class runs in the final match of the season.

Arguably, for the majority of the 2022 County Championship season George’s bowling was under utilised. Between April and August he took 4 wickets from 45 overs. In September alone he took a further 16 wickets from 62.4 overs in four crucial matches for Yorkshire. This included career best figures of 6-26 in the Roses match at Emirates Old Trafford.

England

At international level, George was selected to attend the 2019 England Young Lions winter training camp in Bangalore. He also played in the under 19’s series vs. Bangladesh. In the second Test vs. Bangladesh George scored a first innings 91 and averaged 42.25 in the two-match series. He also recorded his best under 19s ODI bowling figures (3-37) vs. Bangladesh during the final game of the white-ball series.

In July 2019, George was named in the England Under 19’s squad to face India and Bangladesh in a ODI Tri-Nations series.
