Michael Vaughan wrote himself into the record books of cricket during the summer of 2005. He became the first captain of England to win back the Ashes since the 1986-87 series.

Michael’s first-class career for Yorkshire opened in a Roses match in May 1993. It closed 5877 days later, when he played his last county championship game vs. Worcestershire in June 2009.

In a 16 year playing career, Michael accumulated 16,295 first-class runs (AVG. 36.95) and made 42 centuries.

Michael received his first England call-up for the 1999-2000 tour of South Africa, making his debut in the first test. However, Michael had to wait until 2001 before making his first century vs. Pakistan at Old Trafford.

During the summer of 2002, Michael topped 900 runs in seven tests first against Sri Lanka and then India.  Michael’s rich vein of form continue during the tour of Australia, when he scored over 600 runs in the 2002-2003 Ashes series.

In 2003, Michael was appointed England captain. In 2004, England were unbeaten. This winning streak culminated in the first series win in the West Indies since 1968.

The highs of the 2005 Ashes win were followed by the lows of 2006, when Michael was sidelined with injury. He returned in 2007 and scored a century for England on his home ground of Headingley vs. the West Indies.

As-well-as leading England to success Michael also bettered Peter May’s record of twenty wins by an England captain.

In June 2009 Michael retired from all forms of cricket.

Media work immediately opened new avenues in cricket commentary and entertainment. Michael joined the Test Match Special team and became a commentator for both Channel 5 and BBC Radio 5 Live. His media work continues to grow taking on a global dimension. Currrently, Michael works for the BBC, Fox and Cricbuzz. He is also a regular contributer with The Telegraph.
