A Tense Final Day

On a tense final day, Australia took the opening Ashes Test at Edgbaston with a 2 wicket victory.

Under Ben Stokes leadership England again dispensed with a formulistic  playbook. And, in a finely balanced evening session, fortune tipped in Australia’s favour.

In England’s first innings, Joe Root claimed his thirtieth Test century when top scoring with 118*. While opener Zak Crawley set the tempo with his 61.

Stuart Broad returned match figures of 6-132 in yet another fine display of bowling.

The series now moves on to Lord’s for the second Test.
