England’s Star Batter

Zak Crawley was England’s star batter on the second day of the fourth Ashes Test.

Zak set the Old Trafford crowd alight when blasting 189 runs (3 sixes, 21 fours) off 182 balls. His century came off 93 balls to become the third fastest scored by an England batter. Zak’s hundred was also the second fastest scored by an England opener – he already holds the current record.

After Australia were dismissed on day two for 317, England scored rapidly.

A second wicket partnership of 121 between Zak and Moeen Ali (54) gave the innings its initial impetus.

After Moeen’s departure, the onslaught contined apace. Along with Joe Root (84), ZaK shared a stand of 206 for the third wicket. The paternership saw both batters set about the bowlers with conventional stroke play, “white ball” shots and brutal hitting.

With England, on 336, Zak was bowled by Cameron Green for a magnificent 189 and he rightly returned to the pavilion to a standing ovation.
