First Century as England Captain

Ben Stokes’ 103 runs against South Africa was his first century as England captain.

Patience was required in the early part of Ben’s innings. His half century, which was brought up with a 6, took 101 balls.

Aggression then replaced circumspection as Ben took just 57 more balls to reach his twelfth Test century and second on home soil against South Africa.

England declared on 415-9, thanks largely to a 173 run sixth wicket partnership between Ben and Ben Foakes (113*).

With three days remaining England are now in a strong position to level the series.
