Galle – England win the first test vs. Sri Lanka by 211 runs with a day to spare. Captain Joe Root, batsman Jos Buttler and all-rounder Ben Stokes, all members of the Phoenix family, made winning contributions to a fine team performance.
Between them Joe, Ben and Jos have played in 148 tests, yet all three were making their test match debuts in Sri Lanka.
Both reporters and commentator’s praised Joe’s assured captaincy which give England control of the game.
Jos added important runs (38 and 33) at critical phases in both innings.
While Ben’s second innings 62 and final day bowling (8 overs, 16 runs and 1 wicket) helped to put England in a winning position.
