Quick Off the Mark

James Vince was quick off the mark on the first day of the 2021 LV=Insurance County Championship. James’ 168no was the highlight on the opening day of Hampshire’s clash against Leicestershire.

The pitch at the UptonSteel County Ground appeared to be dry for the time of the year. Winning the toss, James decided to bat first.

Hampshire were on 127-3 when James joined Tom Alsop. Timing the ball and playing with controlled power, James’ half-century took just 51 balls. He reached his century off a mere 81 balls including two sixes.

Together with Alsop (119), James added 224 for the fourth wicket.

James went on to pass 150 for the sixth time in his first-class career and at the close was 168no.

Going into day two, Hampshire are in a strong position on 431-4.
