Unbeaten Jos

Cardiff – England defeated Sri Lanka in the first IT20 thanks, in large part, to Jos Buttler’s 68no. Unbeaten Jos, made the win a formality after adding 83 with Jason Roy (36) for the first wicket.

Batting first, Sri Lanka were limited to 129-7.  The England bowlers were on top with Liam Livingstone dismissing Kusal Mendis (9) and returning figures of 1-9 off 2 overs..

Jos was cautious as the openers set about knocking off the required 130 runs. Soon warming to the task, Jos and Roy took 61 from the Sri Lanka bowlers during the powerplay.

Jos’ half-century came in style, thumping a six then a four to reach his 50 off 38 balls.

Jos was still out in the middle as England took the win with 17 balls remaining, giving them a 1-0 series lead.

The matches will be coming around thick and fast, with the second encounter scheduled just 24 hours after England’s win.
