Alice Capsey

There’s no doubt, allrounder Alice Capsey heads the next generation of stars in English Women’s cricket.

Surrey

Alice’s association with Surrey began as an Under 13 before continuing through the age-groupings.

Alice’s debut for Surrey Women came in the Royal London Cup match against Hampshire on 2 June 2019. In the 192 run loss to Hampshire, Alice took 3-65 from 9 overs.

In the 2019 Vitality Women’s T20 Cup Alice took 7 wickets in 5 appearances for Surrey Women, returning best bowling figures of 2-15 from 4 overs against Nottinghamshire.

Playing 8 matches in the 2021 Vitality T20 Cup Alice opened the batting for Surrey, accumulating 134 runs from 7 innings. Against Essex, she recorded her first half century in T20 matches when scoring 51 (6 fours) off 43 balls. Over the 8 Group matches, Alice took 8 wickets and equalled her 2019 best bowling analysis of 2-15 from 4 overs, this time against Middlesex.

In 2022, Alice played 3 Vitality T20 Cup matches for Surrey During the course of the competition she passed 500 T20 runs in the defeat to Sussex.

South East Stars

Alice played 5 group matches for South East Stars in the 2021 Charlotte Edwards Cup.

During the group stage, she scored 163 runs with a top score of 61 against Southern Vipers. In the Group matches Alice took seven wickets, the highlight being her 3-13 in the win over Central Sparks.

A good run in the Charlotte Edwards Cup took the Stars to the Final at the Ageas Bowl. After winning The Hundred Final with Oval Invincibles the Stars gave Alice her second Final victory in 2021. Alice’s Player of the Match performance with the bat (40* off 26 balls) being crucial in the Stars 5 wicket victory over Northern Diamonds.

Oval Invincibles

In the inaugural Hundred of 2021, Alice was part of the Final winnings Oval Invincibles team. During the competition she picked up the Player of the March award for her 41 ball 59 (10 fours) scored against London Spirit. In the Lord’s Final Alice scored 18 and took 2-21.

In 2022, Alice appeared in her second consecutive Final of the Hundred. Again the Invincibles were crowned champions. In the Final Alice took 2-17 and scored 25 in the 5 wicket defeat of Southern Brave.

Melbourne Stars

Alice made her WBBL debut for the Stars on 15 October 2022. In her opening match against Brisbane Heat, Alice took 1-19 and scored 15 runs.

In total, Alice played 14 matches in WBBL 08 for the Stars, scoring 259 runs from 11 innings. Her highest score was a Player of the Match performance of 80* (3 fours, 5 sixes) off 52 balls against Hobart Hurricanes.

During WBBL 08, Alice took 9 wickets with a best bowling analysis of 3-37 in the 6 run win over Perth Scorchers.

The Stars were keen to retain Alice for WBBL 09. And, in the inaugural overseas player draft they secured her serrvices for 20223.

Over the opening two matches of WBBL 09, Alice started quitely with the bat. Her campaign came to life in game four, when Alice recorded a second WBBL half-century (52) in the 13 run defeat to Brisbane Heat.

England

In July 2022, Alice made her IT20 debut for England against South Africa.

On completion of the series against South Africa, Alice was selected for the Commonwealth Games. In the group match against South Africa, Alice recorded her first IT20 half-century. In what proved to be a disappointing Commonwealth games for England, Alice was the team’s top scorer with 135 runs.

Alice’s ODI debut came in the first of a three match series against India in September 2022. Playing in all three matches, Alice’s best performance with the bat came at Canterbury when scoring 39 in the defeat to the visitors.

In November 2022, the ECB announced that Alice had been awarded with her first central contract.

Selected for the December 2022 tour of the West Indies, Alice’s involvement was cut short when suffering a broken collarbone in the opening ODI.

In the home Ashes series of 2023, Alice played in the T20 and ODI components. Her top score in the T20s came in the third game where Alice delivered a Player of the Match performance when scoring 46 runs in the crucial win at Lords. After defeating Australia 2-1 in the T20s, Alice then scored 40 runs in the opening ODI at Bristol. This score bettered her previous ODI best (39) made against India in 2022.
