Durham

In June 2017, Matt made his County Championship debut in the draw against Kent at Canterbury.

Between 2017-2020, Matt played eleven First-Class matches taking nineteen wickets – fourteen of these coming during the 2017 season alone.

Matt’s wicket tally started an upward trajectory in 2021 when he took twenty-three in First-Class matches. This upward rise took off in 2022, when Matr took seventy-three First-Class wickets and recorded best bowling figures of 7-40 when bowling Durham to victory against Glamorgan in May.

Between 2017-2023, Matt recorded 154 red ball wickets for Durham as well as scoring 648 runs. With the bat, his highest First Class, and County Championship score of 81 came in the drawn mstch against Northamptonshire in September 2022.

On 18 May 2018, Matt made his List A debut against Yorkshire in the Royal London Cup. While Durham fell to a 142-run defeat, Matt claimed 3 Yorkshire wickets for 69. His best bowling analysis in the competition (4-62) came in Durham’s 72 win over Northants (17 April 2019).

In the T20 Blast, Matt made his debut in the 7-run win over Notts Outlaws on 19 July 2019. He has best bowling figures of 3-8 which were recorded in the September 2020 victory over Lancashire Lightening. His top score in the competition 40* came off 26 balls in the 30-run defeat to Northants (June 2021).

Northern Superchargers

Matt has played for the Superchargers from the inception of The Hundred in 2021. His best bowling return (1-23) came on debut in the loss to Welsh Fire (July 2021).

England

During India’s Under 19s 2017 tour of England Matt played in the opening Test at Chesterfield, taking 3-20 for England Under 19s in the tourists second innings. He also played in three of the five game ODI series, his best bowling performance (4-61) coming in the Third ODI.

Matt made his full England debut in June 2022 at Lord’s. He made a mighty impressive start to his Test career, by taking four New Zealand wickets for thirteen runs in the visitors first innings and recorded his best bowling analysis in Test matches, to date.

After posting match figure of 7-68 in the first Test, Matt took a further seven wickets in the two remaining matches, to help England take a 3-0 series win over New Zealand.

In 2022, Matt also played in both the deferred 2021 Fifth Test against India and the visit of South Africe for a stand-alone Test. Over these two Tests, Matt addded another six wickets and brought his tally to twenty for 2022.

Matt played one furtherTest in 2023, taking three wickets in England’s ten wicket win over Ireland.

In July 2023, Matt made his ODI debut in England’s defeat at the hands of South Africa. Later in the year he returned his best ODI bowling analysis, to date, (2-47) against Ireland at Trent Bridge.
