Ben Stokes fabulous year of cricket heroics has received further recognition. Ben has been named as the 2019 ICC Player of the Year for men’s cricket.
He is now the proud holder of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
This is the second time in the past two months that Ben has received a prestigious award. In December he was voted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
After being announced as the ICC Player of the Year Ben said,
“It is quite flattering to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. The past 12 months have been incredible for England cricket and to lift the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time was our greatest achievement.”
Ben was also included in both the ICC test and ODI teams of the year. While he was the sole England player named in the test side, fellow Phoenix family member Jos Buttler joined Ben in the ODI team.
